Electronics Manufacturing Research and Services (EMRS) is a prominent research arm of the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering (SSIE) in the Watson School at Binghamton University.
The fundamental activities of EMRS are focused at providing solutions for electronics manufacturing. Based on the value of the manufactured product, electronics is the second largest manufacturing industry and the single largest manufacturing employer in North America.
EMRS's mission is to provide value-added, cost effective research to advance the science of electronics manufacturing through continuous process improvement, systems thinking, and innovation as can be gauged from the Mission Statement.
HISTORY
EMRS (previously known as TREM) was envisioned by Dr. Srihari, who has over 17 years of research experience in the printed circuit assembly domain. Dr. Srihari obtained his Master's (1985) and Ph.D. (1988) from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, specializing in CAPP and CIM.
Since then, he has distinguished himself while working on several consortia related activities in the field of Surface Mount Technology (SMT). Dr. Srihari has published over 300 papers in archival journals and conferences and directed around 150 Master's thesis and 20 doctoral dissertations.
PEOPLE
EMRS also benefits from the experience of other faculty members like Dr. Bob Emerson, Dr. Susan Lu, Dr. Nagen Nagarur, Dr. Sarah Lam, Dr. Bahgat Sammakia, and Dr. Daryl Santos at the State University of New York at Binghamton (SUNY).
Currently, EMRS consists of 28 students pursuing a Master's degree and 16 students working towards a Ph.D. while concurrently working on industry-sponsored research projects. The faculty and the students closely interact with experts from the IEEC and the industry to form a strategic partnership. |
