Slotting in the warehousing industry

The project involves the application of the operations research and heuristic optimization techniques. These aforementioned tools have been applied for slotting in the warehousing industry. For this industry, retrieval process is the critical process in terms of throughput and cost. To increase the throughput of the warehouse an effort should be made to minimize time required for the retrieval operations. The focus of the project is to intelligently locate the items in the warehouse such that the travel time for the retrieval operations is minimized. The project deals with development of mathematical modeling and an efficient solution procedure. Further these industrial engineering techniques are modeled using a computer to develop an user friendly interface.
