Development of a Hypermedia Based Decision Support System For PCB Assembly
The objective of this research was to design and develop a Decision Support System (DSS) that would facilitate sharing the knowledge gained through research while helping the user visualize and understand complicated processes. The DSS developed in this research uses hypermedia concepts. This DSS (called DOVSMarT) has been implemented using Visual Basic 5.0, HTML Workshop, Help Workshop, FrontPage, etc. It has been packaged and released in a CD-ROM with customized setup capabilities. The methods that were adopted for the development of the DSS, the on-line help mechanism, and the hypermedia documents are addressed. DOVSMarT provides guidelines for reducing expensive trial-and-error methods in understanding critical equipment parameters that affect PCB assembly performance. It would help a process engineer set-up and implement processes that are critical to surface mount PCB assembly. It improves information quality and manufacturing efficiency, and hence positively impacts quality and productivity. The system helps the users with setup, process optimization, solder paste selection, pin-in-paste development, and also with the retrieval of related technical reports.
