Implementation of The Pin-In-Paste Process in a Contract Manufacturing Facility

This research addressed implementation of the pin-in-paste process in a mixed technology batch oriented contract manufacturing facility. A design of experiments based approach was adopted to identify the appropriate process parameters. Multiple test vehicles were assembled using the pin-in-paste process. In order to help the engineers in a contract manufacturing environment with the conversion of more assemblies to the pin-in-paste process, a knowledge based system, PIP@DOVA was developed. As a result of this research, a set of guidelines, in the form of a cookbook has been developed to assist process-engineering personnel.
